Michael Alberts, President and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, announced the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded $54,930 in grants to local emergency services providers.
“Our first responders risk their lives every day to keep our community safe”, said Alberts. “We are honored to be able to support their efforts with our contributions.”
Special Projects
The Foundation awarded $19,680 to nine local emergency services providers to help fund special projects. $2,500 grants were awarded to the Oneco Fire Company to make repairs to their conference room at the fire station and the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. to replace failing equipment. Bungay Fire Brigade in Woodstock received $1,200 to purchase a thermal imaging camera, and the Jewett City Fire Department was awarded $3,750 to purchase a high-flow jet fan to help with ventilation within smoke filled buildings.
$4,200 was awarded to the Central Village Fire Company to help fund rapid intervention team equipment. $1,000 grants were given to the Woodstock Volunteer Fire/EMS Association to help outfit a new ambulance and the Thompson Fire Engine Company for new firefighter turnout gear. Dayville Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. received $2,000 to fund an automated external defibrillator (AED), and the Atwood Hose Fire Company in Wauregan received $1,530 to purchase personal protective equipment for firefighters.
Annual Support
Grants amounting to $35,250 were awarded in annual support.
$1,500 grants were awarded to: Attawaugan Fire Department; Atwood Hose Fire Company; Central Village Fire Company; Dayville Fire Company; East Brooklyn Fire Department; East Killingly Fire Department; Griswold Volunteer Fire Company; Jewett City Fire Department; Killingly/Brooklyn Ambulance Corps.; Lisbon Volunteer Fire Dept. & Ambulance Service; Moosup Fire Department; Mortlake Fire Co. & Ambulance Service; Oneco Fire Company; Plainfield Fire Company No. 1, Inc.; Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.; and Williamsville Fire Engine Company in Rogers.
The Foundation also donated $750 to: American Legion Ambulance Fund in Moosup; Canterbury Volunteer Fire Dept. & Ambulance; Danielson Fire Department; East Putnam Fire Department; Pawcatuck Fire Department; Poquetanuck Fire Department EMS in Preston; Preston City Volunteer Fire Department; Putnam EMS Ambulance Service; Putnam Fire Department; South Killingly Fire Department; Thompson Fire Engine Company; Voluntown Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Inc.; West Thompson Fire Department; Westerly Fire Department; and Woodstock Volunteer Fire/EMS Association.
The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation, established by the Bank to strengthen and support the communities it serves, has awarded over $1,500,000 to local organizations since its first grants in 2004. This year, the Foundation awarded 80 grants totaling $136,672 to various community-focused organizations.
