To help local organizations manage the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jewett City Savings Bank awarded $100,000 in grants to six organizations in the communities the Bank supports. The grants were made available as a result of the Bank’s participation in the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston’s Jobs for New England Recovery Grant Program – a relief program that allows member financial institutions to provide financial assistance to local businesses and non-profits that have been adversely impacted by the pandemic. The focus for selecting the recipients of the grants was on organizations that were unable to secure sufficient funding through the CARES Act or other government assistance programs.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created extraordinary financial challenges for local businesses and non-profits, which are so vital to the health and economic strength of our communities. Jewett City Savings Bank is proud to lend a helping hand to these deserving organizations that might otherwise not have had access to financial support,” said Kevin Merchant, President & CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank.

The Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce of Westerly, RI received a $20,000 grant to support the downtown Pawcatuck – Westerly area businesses. The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut at the Bradley Playhouse in Putnam and the Garde Arts Center of New London also received $20,000 grants.

Grants of $15,000 were awarded to Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group (TEEG) of North Grosvenordale and the Jewett City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10004 of Jewett City. A Reason To Ride of Plainfield, a veterans’ support organization, received a $10,000 grant.
