For any family, a move provides a fresh and exciting start. For Rick and Elena Hermonot, their move to a home on a farm in Sterling, CT, started fresh with something else – a business of raising farm-fresh turkeys.
“In 1998, we started out raising 15 turkeys for our family and friends. In 2000, we decided to turn turkeys into a business,” adds Rick Hermonot.
To find the bank to help make it possible, the Hermonots didn’t have to travel far.
“We wanted a hometown bank that would be there for us and wouldn’t be swallowed up merger after merger,” said Rick Hermonot.
“Jewett City Savings Bank was just what we needed. From the beginning, we were interested in doing business with them and they were interested in us, providing the line of credit we needed to get started.”
Nearly 15 years later, the Hermonots business, Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm, has grown into a successful operation that raises more than 3,000 turkeys annually, and features a commercial kitchen, successful retail store, and a USDA-approved processing facility.
As the business has grown, so too has its appreciation for their relationship with Jewett City Savings Bank. “They’ve been a big part of our growth, providing financing for our equipment, land, and properties, which now include a popular corn maze for families. Their commitment to us and personal touch really sets them apart.”
