Whether babysitting or working part-time, a job is a big step in a young person’s life. For many it also means assuming financial responsibility for the first time. As your hometown bank, we have accounts and services to help our young customers grow and learn about money management while keeping parents connected.

Student Checking Account
Available to customers ages 14 to 22, our Student Checking Account has no monthly service fees, no monthly minimum balance requirements, and no per-check charges. Customers under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian as a co-owner on the account.

Each Student Checking Account also includes the following convenience features:

Student Debit Card
Safer and more convenient than cash, a Debit MasterCard® card combines ATM access with the purchasing power of a check, and can be used wherever MasterCard debit is accepted. A $100 daily limit is placed on debit cards issued to customers under age 16, while customers 16 and over may request the daily limit be increased to $250.

Limited ATM Withdrawals with no fees
Students can make up to 10 ATM withdrawals at other banks’ ATMs each statement cycle with no JCSB ATM withdrawal fee. Other banks may charge a separate fee, called a surcharge, for using their ATM. Through our SUM® Network membership, students can avoid surcharges while having access to thousands of ATMs across the country. Click here for surcharge-free ATM locations.

Online and Mobile Banking
Use Online and Mobile Banking to check account balances, transfer funds and even pay bills from any computer with Internet access, or a web-enabled mobile device. Find out more.

Statement Savings Account
Teach your student the importance of keeping their savings separate from their spending money with a Statement Savings Account. There are no minimum balance requirements or monthly service fees for children age 18 and under and for full-time college students. And, it’s easy to transfer money from the Statement Savings Account into the Student Checking Account.

Connect with Parents
Parents (or guardians) may link their Jewett City Savings Bank checking account to the Student Checking Account to oversee the student’s account activity and easily transfer funds. The parent/guardian must be a co-owner on the Student Checking Account for account access.

Educational Instruction
Students can get on track right from the start with the help of our educational instruction at account opening. As part of the tutorial, students learn how to write a check, complete a deposit ticket, record transactions in a register, and balance an account.
