Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation provides defibrillator for Plainfield High

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded funds to Plainfield High School for the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for use at school athletic events. Announcement of the grant was made today by Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank.

The award was made in response to requests from Plainfield High representatives including Athletic Trainer Allison Gilbert, Cheerleading Head Coach Danielle Leroux, and Atwood Hose Fire Company Chief Robert Duval, a certified Emergency Medical Technician who has served as a volunteer athletic trainer for the school’s football program for over 13 years.

All of the writers stressed the importance of having an immediate cardiac-care device readily available should the need arise. As a rule, they said, the school’s athletic events and activities take place at a variety of remote locations on the school grounds. Having an AED available “on the sidelines” would provide a higher level of care and “peace of mind for staff, trainers, parents, and athletes,” they stated.

“The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation is pleased to help assure the safety of our students and all of those involved in Plainfield’s athletic activities,” said Merchant. “You really can’t put a price tag on a piece of equipment designed for emergency use in life-threatening situations.”
