Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation Aids Arts, Education and Cultural Initiatives

Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, announced today that the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded grants totaling $6,000 to help meet the needs of six area nonprofit organizations serving those in the Bank’s marketplace. The awards will support initiatives including educational programs for area youth, preservation projects in local communities, and performing arts opportunities available to residents throughout the region.

Recipients of $1,000 awards included Safe Futures of New London, which will use its grant to continue its Healthy Relationships violence prevention programs for students at Griswold High School, and Griswold Partnership to Reduce the Influence of Drugs for Everyone will use its grant to fund general outreach programs.

The Finnish American Heritage Society in Canterbury will apply its Foundation grant to replacing the temperature control system in the archive for the preservation of historical publications, and the Preston Historical Society will use its grant to help fund structural repairs to the Long Society Meeting House. The Foundation’s $1,000 grants to the Eastern Connecticut Performing Arts Association and to Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut will help those organizations continue to provide educational classes and program scholarships.

According to Merchant, the grants were among awards totaling $84,850 made by the Foundation in 2015.
