Local libraries share $10,000 from Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation

Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, announced today that a total of $10,000 has been awarded to four local libraries by the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation.

The awards, part of the Foundation’s annual giving program that totaled $84,850 in 2015, cover a variety of facility and program enhancements.

A $5,000 grant to the Slater Library in Jewett City, made in addition to a $1,000 annual support award, will help fund the necessary replacement of the Library’s oil tank, and the Foundation’s $2,500 award to Moosup’s Aldrich Free Public Library will help install a new handicapped accessible entrance ramp.

The patrons of the Sterling Public Library will be offered outreach programs for children, made possible by a $1,000 Foundation grant, and members of the Voluntown Public Library’s LEGO® building club will find new robotic materials purchased with a $500 Foundation gift.

“Our libraries are an important part of community life,” said Merchant. “We are pleased to be able to help them meet the needs of our friends and neighbors.”
