Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation grants enhance social services in 4 Bank communities

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded grants totaling $5,100 to four area social services agencies. Announcement of the awards was made today by Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank.

In Jewett City, the Griswold Senior Center will use the Foundation’s $2,600 award to offer special Tai-Chi classes designed to improve balance and reduce the incidence of serious falls among the senior population.

United Services in Dayville will apply its $1,000 grant from the Foundation toward the installation of security cameras at the emergency domestic violence shelter in Danielson. The Brooklyn Parks and Recreation Department will also dedicate its $500 grant toward the purchase of surveillance cameras for the Teen Center.

The Foundation’s $1,000 award to The ARC of Quinebaug Valley will cover leasing expenses for The ARC’s new Redemption Center in Putnam, a revenue-generating facility that will also provide employment opportunities for clients.

According to Merchant, Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation grants totaling $84,850 were awarded in 2015 to a variety of nonprofit organizations serving communities in the Bank’s market area.
