Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation Announces Grants to Improve Library Services in Jewett City and Voluntown

Slater Library and Voluntown Public Library awarded a total of $3,500 to improve technology and expand resources for library patrons

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded a total of $3,500 in grants to two local libraries: Slater Library in Jewett City and Voluntown Public Library.

Slater Library was awarded a $2,500 Foundation grant to dedicate a reading room as a young adult section of the library. The grant will be used to provide four tablet devices and a special tablet workstation in the young adult section, as well as supplement the young adult section with a permanent collection of classic literature that is typically required reading for students. The library is located at 26 Main Street in Jewett City.

The Town of Voluntown Public Library received a grant of $1,000 to expand their museum pass program to include Old Sturbridge Village, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, and an additional day pass for Connecticut state parks and forests. The remaining funds will be used to enhance the library’s Connecticut history section with additional books on the state’s history and lore. The library is located at 107 Main Street in Voluntown.

These donations are part of Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation’s commitment to help improve the resources available to the residents of its local communities. In the past year, the Foundation has awarded more than $60,000 to help 38 local nonprofit organizations carry out their missions. According to Kevin Merchant, Foundation President, since its inception ten years ago the Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 to support organizations in its service area.
