Jewett City Savings Bank awards over $2,000 to Project PIN and Pomfret food pantries

JCSB_groceriesThe Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $2,021 to Project PIN, the food pantry serving the towns of Plainfield and Sterling, and the Town of Pomfret Food Pantry.

The Foundation’s $1,521 gift to Project PIN helped the pantry purchase additional refrigeration units to be installed as they expand at their current location. In 2013, Project PIN served an average of 324 families, an increase of 34% from 2012.

The Pomfret Food Pantry will use its $500 grant from the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation to purchase food and miscellaneous household items in order to continue to provide support to families needing assistance in the town.

“These grants will provide vital assistance to individuals and families in our neighborhoods,” said Foundation President Kevin C. Merchant. “The need today is greater than ever, and we are pleased to be able to help.”

In the 10 years since it was established, the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has provided almost $450,000 to support communities served by the Bank, with nearly $70,000 in support to local food pantries, Merchant said.
