11 fire, ambulance services awarded Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation grants

fire-rescueThe Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded a total of $5,979 to 11 area fire and ambulance services during its most recent round of funding.

The grants, ranging in amounts from $500 to $700, were awarded to:

A.A. Young Jr. Hose & Ladder Co. in Jewett City; Atwood Hose Fire Company in Wauregan; Central Village Fire Co.; Danielson Fire Department; East Brooklyn Fire Department; and Plainfield Fire Company #1.

Also, South Killingly Fire Department; Sterling Volunteer Fire Co.; Voluntown Volunteer Fire Co.; Pomfret Ambulance Service; and K.B. Ambulance Corps in Killingly.

“The Foundation grants will help these organizations fill needs ranging from equipment repair and replacement to the purchase of updated technologies to keep our residents and property safe,” said Kevin C. Merchant, president of Jewett City Savings Bank.

Among the projects funded by the Foundation is an initiative by K.B. Ambulance Corp. to speed 911 response time by purchasing and distributing 200 reflective address signs to Killingly residents, with priority to the sick and elderly and those with disabilities.

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded nearly $50,000 to area non-profit organizations this year, according to Merchant. In the 10 years since it was established, the Foundation has provided almost $450,000 to support communities served by the Bank, with nearly $138,000 going to local emergency services.
