Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation donates $5,300 to four local food pantries

JCSB_groceriesThe Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has donated a total of $5,300 to food pantries that serve residents in need of assistance in Jewett City, Preston, and Pomfret.

Among the grants was $1,000 to the Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center in support of plans to bring the new Mobile Food Pantry to Jewett City one day a month.

Also serving Jewett City individuals and families, the St. Mary Food Pantry received $1,800 from the Foundation for the purchase and installation of a generator to provide emergency power to the walk-in cooler and freezer. The St. Mary Food Pantry has received over $34,000 in grant funds over the last nine years.

The Foundation’s $2,000 grant to the Preston City Congregational Church food pantry will help stock the shelves with basic food items, and its $500 award to the Town of Pomfret Food Pantry will help ensure the availability of basic food items for residents in that community.
