Cannon earns national Compliance certification

Peter Cannon, vice president and compliance officer at Jewett City Savings Bank, has been awarded the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers, a subsidiary of the American Bankers Association, in Washington, DC.

Cannon joined Jewett City Savings Bank in May 2011 with ten years of banking and compliance experience. An attorney with a background in legislation and legal research, he is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and the Roger Williams University School of Law.

The CRCM designation is awarded to those who demonstrate excellence in the field of bank regulatory compliance. To qualify for the certification, individuals must have certain levels of experience and education in the compliance profession, pass an exam, and agree to abide by a code of ethics. The CRCM exam covers regulatory requirements as they relate to credit, deposits/securities, safety and soundness, information reporting, and corporate responsibility.

“The CRCM certification reinforces Peter’s skills and knowledge required for competent practice within the compliance profession,” said Kevin C. Merchant, Jewett City Savings Bank president and CEO. “And it definitely benefits the Bank in today’s ever-changing regulatory environment.”
