Jewett City Savings Bank will hold Community Shred Days

Jewett City Savings Bank is offering local residents the opportunity to protect themselves from identity theft by disposing of unwanted documents in a giant, state-of-the-art mobile shredding machine!

The Bank’s Community Shred Days will be held on Saturday, April 24 at the Bank’s Main Office at 111 Main Street in Jewett City, and on Saturday, May 8 at the Dayville office at 560 Hartford Pike. Hours on both Shred Days are 9 a.m. to noon. The event is open to the public, who are welcome to bring up to two file boxes of old bills, legal forms, and other documents per person to be shredded.

“The key to protecting yourself from identity theft is shredding anything you are getting rid of that has your personal information on it,” says Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank. “We are offering the public a practical and safe way to do that, and we’ll also be providing information about other ways to protect against identity theft.”

Merchant stressed that the shredding service is extremely valuable for the destruction of sensitive documents that may contain personal information, which is precisely what identity thieves seek.
