Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, has announced the promotions of Mary Papenfoth, Gary Salinsky, and Lisa Legler to the corporate position of assistant vice president.

Mary Papenfoth
A Voluntown resident, Papenfoth serves as branch manager of the Bank’s Preston office.
 
She joined the Bank in 1994, serving as a full-time teller at the Main Office and also in the Brooklyn branch. She was promoted to positions of increased responsibility, including accounting assistant, and Main Office assistant branch manager before being named Preston branch manager in November 2008.
 
Papenfoth attended the America’s Community Bankers Branch Management Development School, and holds numerous certifications from the Center for Financial Training. She has received first place honors in the categories of Mortgage Loan Documentation and Consumer Lending.
 
Active in her community, she serves as a volunteer interpreter for the Mystic Seaport Museum and a role player with the Mystic Seaport Lantern Light Tours. She is 1st vice president of the South County Art Association, a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle church finance committee, and a member of the Southeastern Connecticut Women’s Network.

Gary Salinsky
Salinsky is a commercial lender at the Bank’s Main Office. He joined the Bank in June 2008 with two decades of financial services experience, including vice president positions at three Virginia banks.
 
He attended Middlesex Community College in Middletown, CT, and Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg, VA.  A Mystic resident, he is past assistant vice president for the Fredericksburg Kiwanis Club, and past vice president, board member and volunteer for the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. He is a member of the Norwich Rotary Club.
 
Lisa Legler
Legler, a Moosup resident, is the manager of the Bank’s Main Office in Jewett City. She joined the Bank in 2006 and has served in positions including customer service representative, retail operations manager, and assistant manager. She holds an associate’s degree from Becker College in Worcester.  Lisa is currently enrolled in the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.

Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, has announced the promotions of Lisa Legler and Melissa Deslauriers to head up the branch management team at the Bank’s main office in Jewett City.

Legler was previously assistant manager at the Jewett City branch. She joined the Bank in 2006 as a customer service representative and also served as retail operations manager before her promotion to assistant manager in 2008.

A resident of Moosup, she attended Becker College in Worcester, MA where she earned an associate’s degree in paralegal studies.

Deslauriers has been promoted to assistant branch manager. She joined Jewett City Savings Bank in 2004 as a teller and has also served as a customer service representative. She is a graduate of Plainfield High School, and holds certificates from the Center for Financial Training in areas including Professional Teller, Retail Sales and Service, Financial Services and Supervision. She is a Preston resident.

Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, has announced the promotion of four employees to assistant vice president status.

They are Kevin Goyen of East Hampton, Brandy S. Hapgood of Plainfield, Terrill A. Sabourin of Moosup, and Jane M. Watson of Plainfield.

Kevin Goyen
Kevin Goyen, the Bank’s customer information security officer since 2007, joined Jewett City Savings Bank as systems administrator in 1999 and was named technology manager in 2006.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years as a naval aircrewman and performed anti-submarine operations. He became a Master at Arms 1st Class during his second enlistment in the Navy. Following his military service, he utilized computer skills gained as a hobby to land an entry-level job as a field service technician, gaining network and server knowledge and experience prior to joining the Bank.

Goyen is a graduate of Manchester (CT) Community College. He is currently enrolled in the Connecticut School of Finance and is scheduled to graduate in April 2010.  He continues to advance his skills in the Kenpo Karate discipline.

Brandy Hapgood
Brandy Hapgood, business development officer and branch manager in Jewett City Savings Bank’s Dayville office, joined the Bank in 2007 with over 13 years of financial services experience with Savings Bank of Manchester, Westbank, and Citizens Bank.

She began her banking career at age 18 as a teller, and progressed through positions of higher responsibility including management and business development. An honor roll graduate of Putnam High School, Hapgood studied business at Quinebaug Valley Community College. She is a member of Rotary Club of Danielson and the Northeastern CT Chamber of Commerce. She is a former board member of Habitat for Humanity of Northeast, CT, and is active in community activities such as Relay for Life.

Terrill Sabourin
Terrill Sabourin, deposit operations manager, joined the Bank in 1988 as a teller, and served as accounting clerk and operations support assistant before being named to her present position in 1999.

A graduate of Plainfield High School, she earned an associate’s degree in accounting at Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson in 2000. She also earned diplomas in general banking, bank operations, general financial services, and financial services operations from the Center for Financial Training.  She is currently enrolled in the Connecticut School of Finance and is scheduled to graduate in April of 2010.

Sabourin is president of the Plainfield High School Athletic Boosters.

Jane Watson
Accounting manager, Jane Watson, joined the Bank in 1991 as a teller and went on to hold the positions of head teller in 1993 and her current position in 1996.  In 2003 she was promoted to Assistant Treasurer.

She is a graduate of Plainfield High School and has earned two associates degrees from Quinebaug Valley Community College. She also received a General Banking Diploma from the American Institute of Banking as well as a diploma from the Connecticut School of Finance and Management.

Tomasz Kosek of Middletown has joined Jewett City Savings Bank as assistant vice president and investment executive with Infinex Investments, Inc., according to an announcement by Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO.

As the manager of client services at Infinex Financial Group, Kosek has provided Jewett City Savings Bank customers with investment services over the past two years. That experience prompted his decision to join the Bank as an Infinex representative. He will be located at the Bank’s main office in Jewett City.

Infinex offers a range of investment options including mutual funds, stocks, bonds, and long-term care insurance. Kosek joined Infinex Financial Group in 2000 as a relationship manager, and was named manager of client services in 2004. Previously, he was a financial associate with Pratt & Whitney in Cheshire.

He is a graduate of New Britain High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in finance at Central Connecticut State University. He holds Series 7, 63, 24 Registrations and Life and Health Licenses.

Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, announced today that Lorraine Corson of Plainfield has been promoted to serve as assistant branch manager of the Bank’s Brooklyn office.

Corson joined the Bank in 1997 as a part-time teller at the Main office. She became a full-time employee that same year, and later served as deposit operations clerk and then as head teller of the Central Village office. In March of this year, she was named head teller of the Brooklyn office.

A graduate of Plainfield High School, she holds associate’s degrees in accounting and in management from Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson. She has also earned several diplomas and certificates from the American Institute of Banking and the Center for Financial Training.

Corson has served as data entry clerk for the Plainfield Fire company for 12 years, and is a three-year member of the Plainfield Fire District.

Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, has announced the promotions of James A. McDonald of Essex and Kevin Goyen of East Hampton to positions of increased responsibility.

McDonald has been promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer, with administrative oversight over the finance, information technology and deposit operations functions. He joined Jewett City Savings Bank in 1999 as controller, and was named vice president and controller in 2000 and to his most recent position as vice president and treasurer in 2001.

He began his financial services career 23 years ago with New Haven Savings Bank, advancing to positions of increased responsibility in the areas of accounting and operations with American National Bank, Founders Bank, Bank of New Haven and Citizens Bank of Connecticut prior to joining Jewett City Savings Bank.

A graduate of Enfield (CT) High School, McDonald attended Providence College and Southern Connecticut State University in Hamden, CT, the New England School of Banking and the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

Goyen, who was named technology manager in 2006, has been promoted to customer information security officer. He joined Jewett City Savings Bank as systems administrator in 1999.

Kevin C. Merchant, a native of Norwich, has assumed the position of president and chief executive officer of Jewett City Savings Bank following the June 30 retirement of Reino E. Horstmeyer.

Merchant has over three decades of financial services experience, and has spent the past 26 years with Jewett City Savings Bank. He joined the Bank in 1981 as an assistant vice president, and was promoted to vice president two years later. He was named senior vice president in 2000.

“Kevin is a very talented banker,” Horstmeyer said of his successor. “He is well respected by his colleagues, and will bring a new enthusiasm and vision to the position.”

A graduate of Norwich Free Academy, Merchant went on to study at Central CT State University in New Britain, earning a bachelor’s degree in administrative sciences. He is a member of Jewett City Businessmen’s Club and several banking organizations and local chambers of commerce. Until recently, he was also actively involved with his daughters, Kristen and Lindsay, in their youth basketball and softball activities and coached the Connecticut Green Devils AAU fastpitch softball team.

Merchant lives in Sterling with his wife, Lori, and stepchildren Ariel and Zachary.

Reino E. Horstmeyer, president  and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, announced today that Brandy S. Landry of Danielson has been named branch manager/business development officer for the Bank’s newest full-service office, located at 560 Hartford Pike in Dayville.

Landry joins Jewett City Savings Bank from Citizens Bank in Colchester, where she was manager/business banking officer. She began her banking career at age 18 as a teller at Savings Bank of Manchester, joining Citizens Bank in 1999 as assistant manager at the Plainfield office. Her experience also includes branch management with Westbank in Putnam/Danielson. 

An honor roll graduate of Putnam High School, Landry studied business at Quinebaug Valley Community-Technical College. She is a member of the BNI Group and the Chamber of Commerce.

Reino E. Horstmeyer, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank since 1980, announced his pending retirement at  the 134th Annual Meeting of the Corporators of Jewett City Savings Bank held on March 28 at the Jacques Cartier Club in Jewett City.

Kevin Merchant of Sterling, senior vice president, will take over as president and CEO following Horstmeyer’s June 30th retirement.

Horstmeyer, a Canterbury resident, joined Jewett City Savings Bank in 1970 as a management trainee slated to manage the Bank’s first branch office, in Central Village. He was named to lead the Bank a decade later. At the Annual Meeting, he thanked “the Board members who gave me guidance and Corporators who supported me over the years.”

He praised the selection of Merchant as his successor.

“Kevin is a very talented banker with over 30 years of experience, over 26 with Jewett City Savings,” Horstmeyer said. “ He is respected by his fellow employees, and will bring a new enthusiasm and vision to the position.

“ I will leave knowing the Bank remains in good hands,” he added.

Horstmeyer also announced the promotion of Diana L.  Rose of Canterbury to vice president and senior retail officer, a new position. Now responsible for the Bank’s marketing efforts, Rose’s new responsibilities will also include branch oversight and support of the Bank’s retail efforts.
